Welcome to the official web site of the Hood County Appraisal District. The goal of this site is to provide the taxpayers of Hood County with useful information to adequately assist in answering their tax questions and concerns. It is the mission of the Appraisal District to serve our taxpayers and citizens in an equal, uniform, and respectful manner as we attempt to accomplish our assigned task as determined by the Texas Legislature.
With the Texas Property Tax Code as our guide, and primary source of direction, we strive to appraise property at a level representative of market value. An appraisal is defined as an unbiased opinion of value, and market value is defined as the price at which a property would sell, as of a given date, when a willing buyer and willing seller reach an agreement and all aspects of the transaction are considered arms length. To accomplish this task, an appraiser must rely upon data generated within the market place. Recent sales, cost, and income information make up the comparable data necessary to develop an accurate opinion of value. As appraisers we seek to earn the trust of the general public by producing appraisals that correctly reflect current real estate trends.
The District in no way strives to artificially inflate values in an effort to benefit the taxing entities of the District. Our only priority is to uniformly appraise property according to the laws of Texas as created and amended by the elected legislators in Austin.
If the value placed on your property is incorrect, I encourage you to speak informally with one of our appraisers during the appropriate protest period. Doing so may resolve the matter and help us accurately appraise all properties we are charged to appraise.
Sincerely,
Greg Stewart
